Abstract:

Objective The present study aims to compare the effects of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) on death anxiety of women with breast cancer. Methods This is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test/post-test design. The study population includs all women suffering from breast cancer covered by the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation in Gorgan, Iran in 2021. Of these, 30 were selected and randomly divided into two intervention groups of CBT and ISTDP and one control group. Ghorbani’, s death anxiety scale in Persian was used to measure death anxiety before and after the interventions. The intervention groups received the interventions at 11 sessions each for 90 minutes, while the control group put on the waiting list. Data analysis was performed by the analysis of covariance in SPSS software, version 26. Results Both CBT and ISTDP were effective in reducing the death anxiety of patients (P<0. 05). There was no significant difference between them (P>0. 05). Conclusion CBT and ISTDP can reduce the death anxiety of women with breast cancer. There is no significant diffrence between them.

Abstract:

Aim and Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is associated with an increased risk of various types of psychological afflictions. Indication of these disorders is added to the erosive factors of chronic disease and has many negative effects on the level of adaptation and mental and social health of these people. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) on reducing alexithymia in rheumatoid patients. Methods and Materials: The present research was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test design as well as control group. In order to select the sample, first of all, based on the criteria of the American Rheumatology Association and the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 male and female patients were purposefully selected from specialized rheumatology clinics in Kerman. This selection was made by rheumatologists. The members of the sample group were randomly divided into two 20-memeber groups of experimental and control. For the experimental group, 15 one-and-a-half-hour sessions of Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy were held. Data were collected through Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS). Research data were analyzed using Analysis of covariance. Findings: The findings showed that Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy is effective in reducing the rate of alexithymia in rheumatoid patients (p <0. 05). Conclusions: Patients first performed better in recognizing emotions and then improved their ability to describe emotions and physical symptoms. Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy by affecting on anxiety discharge pathway and exact control and moment-by-moment monitoring of anxiety, feelings and defenses helps to reduce clinical symptoms in rheumatoid patients.

Abstract:

Aim and Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common inflammatory rheumatic disease. In most communities, its prevalence is approximately 3%. Anxiety has been reported as one of the most common displeasing psychological experiences in rheumatoid arthritis patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) on reducing anxiety in rheumatoid patients. Methods and Materials: This study was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test design along with a control group. The statistical population of the study included patients with rheumatoid arthritis who had visited rheumatology clinics in Kerman during the research. We purposefully selected 40 males and females patients with rheumatoid arthritis as a statistical sample. Then the members of the sample group were randomly divided into two 20-memebr parts as experimental and control groups. For the experimental group, 15 one-anda-half-hour sessions of Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy was performed once a week and individually. Research data was analyzed using analysis of covariance and SPSS 19 software. Findings: After reviewing the pre-test scores between the experimental and control groups, the results of the study indicated that Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy is effective in reducing anxiety scores in rheumatoid patients (p<0. 05). Conclusions: The use of psychodynamic concepts and techniques in understanding anxiety disorders, seems to be very important. Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy considerably helps to reduce anxiety as well as clinical symptoms in rheumatoid patients by affecting the discharge path of anxiety and careful control and moment-by-moment monitoring of anxiety, emotions, and defenses.

Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to measure the body temperature changes in the process of central dynamic sequence in Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy.Case Description: The sample consisted of a patient who was voluntarily chosen. The research design was case study method. Results: The body temperature (hand temperature, forehead temperature) was measured during treatment protocol, using biofeedback machine.A nonparametric test K independent sample was used for data analysis. Conclusion: The Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy changes the body temperature. The body temperature is a sign to review the protocol and determine the level of anxiety and the patient’s defenses.

Background and aims: Cancer is impressive on different aspects of life, including mental health. The present research aimed to investigate and compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy (CBT) and Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) on self-compassion in cancer patients. Methods: An experimental study with pre-test/post-test and with control group was designed. Among women with cancer in Gorgan city in 2020, 30 people were selected and randomly divided into three groups (two experimental and one control groups). Neff's self-compassion scale was used in the pre-test and post-test to collect data. The intervention of ISTDP and CBT was conducted in 11 sessions of 90 minutes over two month. The control group remained on the waiting list. Data analysis was performed by covariance statistical analysis. Results: According to the findings ISTDP and CBT have a significant effect on self-compassion in cancer patient (p<0. 01). However, no significant difference was found in the effectiveness between ISTDP and CBT Conclusion: Based on the results, ISTDP and CBT increase the self-compassion in cancer patients. Nevertheless, there is not significant diffrence between the effectiveness of these two treatments.

Abstract:

Introduction: While major depression has been treated with laser acupuncture (LA) and Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), the relative efficacy of these two methods and their combination is unclear. ISTDP is a form of dynamic psychotherapy that enables the experience and processing of blocked complex feelings, while LA is based on the opening of blocked energy meridians. The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of LA and ISTDP and their combination in treating major depression. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was carried out with 45 depressed patients on three equal arms (15 patients in each group): Group I) LA, group II) ISTDP, and group III) combined LA and ISTDP. The participants were evaluated at six time points using the Hamilton rating depression scale (HDRS), structured clinical interview for structured clinical interview for DSM (SCID), and symptom checklist-90 (SCL90), including baseline, session 8, session 12, 1-month follow-up, 2-month follow-up, and 3- month follow-up. Results: HDRS and SCID ratings showed within-group reductions in SCL90 and HDRS scores in the three groups over time. At one of the follow-up times, combined LA+ISTDP showed a greater reduction than either individual treatment on the SCL-90 depression subscale but not on HDRS or SCID.  Conclusion: Based on releasing blocked energies, the results of this study indicate that LA and ISTDP are effective in treating major depression. The combination of the two methods may be more effective in reducing depression symptoms.
